For iCar specifically, the careful answer is eligible but not yet verified. N5 Labs' current implementation uses the small WidgetKit family Apple requires, but we have not confirmed that public App Store version 1.0 appears in the CarPlay gallery. Confirmed: iCar widgets work on the iPhone Home and Lock Screen, and its App Shortcuts provide Connect Sound and Disconnect Sound actions. Not yet confirmed: whether App Store version 1.0 appears in CarPlay's Add Widgets gallery. Apple's developer documentation says apps can offer small widgets without building a full CarPlay app. It also notes that a widget from an app without CarPlay integration cannot open the iPhone app from the vehicle display. On vehicles without touch input, widgets are inactive. The number of stacks depends on the vehicle's screen.
How to check for iCar in CarPlay on iOS 26
- 1. Update and pair. Use iOS 26 or later and connect the iPhone to the vehicle.
- 2. Open the gallery. While parked, go to Settings → General → CarPlay → your car → Widgets → Add Widgets.
- 3. Look for iCar. If it appears, add it and arrange the stack. Display capacity varies by vehicle.
- 4. Treat absence honestly. If iCar is not listed, the current release is not exposed on that setup. Its Home and Lock Screen widgets still work on iPhone.
Apple's exact consumer path comes from the iPhone User Guide. Test only while parked; never configure widgets while driving.
How to play an iCar sound when CarPlay connects
This feature is separate from CarPlay widgets. Apple Shortcuts detects the Connects or Disconnects event; iCar supplies the sound action. iCar does not monitor your location or control the CarPlay interface.

Install iCar, open it once, and choose the cue you want to use. iCar 1.0 includes bundled cues; optional Pro features include importing a short local audio file.

Open Shortcuts, choose Automation, tap the plus button, select CarPlay, and choose Connects. Apple also provides a separate Disconnects trigger.

Choose Add Action, open the Apps list, select iCar, then choose Connect Sound. Set the automation to run immediately when that option is available.
